The DBR and its Goals

The German Disability Council pursues the following aims:

to achieve that disabled or chronically ill people are put on an equal footing with non-disabled people in our society and that the discrimination of disabled and chronically people and their relatives is continually broken down,
to attain that self-determination of disabled and chronically people and their relatives is realized in all areas of life and decision-taking or determination by third people is reduced
to facilitate that disabled and chronically ill people and their relatives can represent themselves in all acts of decision-taking that concern their interests and that they are no longer dictated by others,
to implement the participation of disabled and chronically ill people and their relatives in all areas of life and to prevent their exclusion,
to fight against all disadvantages endured by disabled and chronically ill people and their relatives in society, and
to achieve that self-help is given priority over help that is organized by somebody else.
