The DBR and its Goals

The German Disability Council pursues the following aims:

  • to achieve that disabled or chronically ill people are put on an equal footing with non-disabled people in our society and that the discrimination of disabled and chronically people and their relatives is continually broken down,
  • to attain that self-determination of disabled and chronically people and their relatives is realized in all areas of life and decision-taking or determination by third people is reduced
  • to facilitate that disabled and chronically ill people and their relatives can represent themselves in all acts of decision-taking that concern their interests and that they are no longer dictated by others,
  • to implement the participation of disabled and chronically ill people and their relatives in all areas of life and to prevent their exclusion,
  • to fight against all disadvantages endured by disabled and chronically ill people and their relatives in society, and
  • to achieve that self-help is given priority over help that is organized by somebody else.
